here are ten things that i love, in no particular order. the letter "g" was given to me by the fantastic [livejournal.com profile] cincodemaygirl. if you want me to give you a letter, just ask. :)

1. ...

oh my god, the letter "g" is difficult!!!! (it got easier as i went along.)

1. gaelic languages - i don't understand them, but i love to listen to them. and i have books about them. quite a few.

scots gaelic:
sleepy maggie - ashley macisaac and mary jane lamond
dómhnall mac 'ic iain - mary jane lamond

irish (gaeilge):
margie - heathers. the first half of the song is performed live in irish here, and the rest is then in english.
this video has the lyrics in irish in the info. i am very fond of this song!

an interview in irish with colm mac con iomaire (from the frames)
part 1
part 2 (included here for colm's performance, which is an instrumental .)

i haven't really explored manx yet, so no videos.

2. geckos - i've had four. a tokay gecko named neelix, a white-spotted gecko named gremlin, a crocodile gecko named gargoyle, and a house gecko named truffle. gargoyle chirped like a bird, gremlin croaked like a frog, neelix barked like a chihuahua, and truffle melted. these are all factual statements. geckos have sticky toes, that aren't actually sticky. they can lick their own eyeballs, which is a darn good thing since they don't have eyelids. they are awesome.

3. glitter bottles - i went through a period of making these obsessively. instructions: get an empty plastic bottle that still has its cap. make sure it's clean. put glitter in it. (i recommend very fine glitter from a craft store.) add water. add food coloring if you like. close cap tightly. shake. swirl. stim. you can make tornadoes. you can also use baby oil instead of water, or add glycerin to the water... so pretty!!

4. a two-fer! glen hansard's acoustic guitar - it has to be the most well-loveworn guitar on earth. and it still sounds awesome.

say it to me now - glen hansard and his guitar, no microphone. just look at that guitar. i hope it never needs to retire.

5. gannets - i've never seen them in person, because they tend to be out on the ocean. but i think they're fantastic looking, and photos of them can be either gorgeous or comical.

6. garlic - it is not possible to have too much garlic. i love it. if the recipe calls for 2 cloves, (2 cloves for an entire pot of chili? are you mad??) i may put in a whole bulb. i love regular garlic, elephant garlic, roasted garlic, minced garlic, chopped garlic, jamaican garlic sauce... oh, it's been so long since i had jamaican garlic sauce. my supermarket doesn't have it. garlic ice cream is shockingly delicious. roasted garlic alfredo sauce is my favorite cream sauce... oh, garlic!

7. a two-fer! andrae gonzalo's gutter-water dress - from the inspiration challenge on season 2 of project runway.

8. gorillas - seeing them in person makes me all teary-eyed. koko the gorilla can communicate with people using sign language. here's a video of a baby gorilla meeting his new adoptive mom at the san francisco zoo.

9. garbanzo beans, aka chick peas - hot or cold, i don't care. i'll eat 'em straight out of the can. and where do you think hummus comes from?

and most importantly:
10. george!!!!!!!!!!!!!
