so close...
Jun. 9th, 2009 11:14 pmi just spent two and a half hours trying to catch a teeny tiny little black and white kitten in the bushes in front of my house. very nervewracking since i live on a very busy street. actually, i live on a corner, and my entrance is on the quieter side street, but this little critter was hanging out at the front. really really small; maybe six weeks, tops. tops. quite a pair of lungs on it. very eager to be found by a mommy cat. not very eager to be caught by me. i touched it once, but couldn't get a grip because of all the branches.
around 10:15 my upstairs neighbor's girlfriend heard me and the kitten meowing. she came out and offered to help. she touched it once, i touched it once, but ultimately he finally broke his pattern and ran out of the bushes, past *my* door, and down the side street, where he hid himself (or herself) in shrubs that are eight feet deep. we can't possibly get the kitten from there.
:(
i came back in around eleven. i brought the open tin of food with me, and was trying to figure out how it spilled on the side of the can. it hadn't. there was a slug on the can.
the slug has been rescued and released into the wild. that has to count for something, right? :P
i also brought the cat carrier back inside. zelda is sitting in it. *sigh*
i'm trying to console myself by focusing on the fact that we got it away from the main road. but really, the poor thing is too small to even be away from its mother full-time yet.
*more sighs*
pls send spare good safety thoughts to Small Black and White Kitten, my street, new jersey. thanks.
